In today’s age the enemy has really attacked the true nature of God which is love. Love is mentioned in the bible 596 times.
The golden rule we use is based on biblical principles, and has really been under attack.
The dysfunctional use of love in the world today is down right scary.
How can we show God’s love if we don’t really know what true love is ourselves. We have a skewed idea of love due to the relationships over our life.
We then take the same things that were done to us out of love and do them to others feeling justified because we are being loving.
We have to go to God’s word to define what he says true love is. It says that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
After you read that you then have to put every relationship you have to the test.
Are you patient in that relationship? Are you kind?
Are you envious with that person? Are you boastful?
Are you proud? Are you dishonorable to them?
Do you get angry with them? Are you throwing past hurts in their face?
Man those are a lot of questions we need to ask ourselves. We have to really examine ourselves and motives in our relationships.
When we are operating in true love then our relationships naturally lineup with that verse. We no longer take years of baggage into existing or new relationships. We find that the kindness and compassion we show is life changing to those we show it to.
It is that same kindness and compassion God showed us through his son Jesus that changed our lives to the better.
We have to not allow the devil to attack our self worth, our relationships, our feeling of not being good enough.
God made us in his image, he breathed his life into us. He knew you before the foundations of the earth were created and had prepared good works for you.
We are all creative, loving, naturing, funny, smart, and vulnerable. We are all the same no matter your color, race, gender, weight, height, social status. We have to stop allowing the enemy to divide us by being offended.
When we allow ourselves to be offended we lose every time. When we allow ourselves not to extend love to another human we lose.
God wants us to love him and fellowship with him.
God wants us to “but have love for your neighbour as for yourself”
This is where we have to relearn how to love. To love God truly, to love ourselves truly to be able to truly love our neighbor.
