I was out riding my bike praying and singing in the Spirit.
I see a nice green field with a park bench, so I parked.
As I was reading scripture and worshiping, I heard Holy Spirit say, “Just like Nathanael under the tree.”
I happened to look up and I was sitting under a tree.
I recalled vaguely the story so when I got back home, I Googled to see where in the Bible is the story.
I start to read in The Passion Translation John 1:43-51 and that is when it came alive to me what Holy Spirit wanted to say to me.
“When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said, “Here comes a true son of Israel—an honest man with no hidden motive!” Nathanael was stunned and said, “But you’ve never met me—how do you know anything about me?” Jesus answered, “Nathanael, right before Philip came to you, I saw you sitting under the shade of a fig tree.””
John 1:47-48 TPT
The first thing he pointed out to me was that Jesus knows who we are and our hearts before we ever meet him.
Jesus was partnering with Holy Spirit at this time and operating in the Gift of Knowledge.
The second thing was later in the text was the answer to what I had just been praying about.
“Nathanael blurted out, “Teacher, you are truly the Son of God and the King of Israel!” Jesus answered, “Do you believe simply because I told you I saw you sitting under a fig tree? You will experience even more impressive things than that! I prophesy to you eternal truth: From now on, you all will see an open heaven and gaze upon the Son of Man like a stairway reaching into the sky”
John 1:49-51 TPT
The fig tree is often a biblical metaphor of God’s purpose and destiny coming to fruitfulness as stated in the footnotes of the Passion Translation.
See they (the Godhead) know us better than we know ourselves. They know how we think, and how we search things out.
Last year the Father talked to me about sending me on scavenger hunts and that is exactly what happened that morning.
The most important thing is the posture of your HEART and then the openness of our ears to hear and obey the Holy Spirit.
Had I not searched out what Holy Spirit said about just like Nathanael sitting under the tree I would have missed the answer to what I had just been praying about.
I want to encourage you today to examine your heart posture and the willingness to hear what is being spoken to you.
They love you far more than you can ever imagine and have not forgotten about your prayers.
